SCHOOLS OF SPEECH

KET

As we round out our study of the words of power, it's tempting to breeze by this one. The chilling, inevitability of one's own mortality, or the shadows lurking under the bed when we close our eyes, pursuing sleep... the slow, quiet march of dissolution, the totality of decay falls under the dark blanket of Ket.

Some of the most sinister words ever invented by orators derive from this power, from the places where few dare to tread. Words that decay the living even as they scream, that burden the stomach with insatiable hunger, that drown those standing on dry land... I will not write them here, at the risk of exposing the easily influenced to this power, which is more terrible than Ket deserves.

For we all will one day venture there, beyond the veil, to the void beyond all things. There is a beauty to it, a natural wonder to the next great adventure, and those who abuse such a thing surrender their souls to a corruption from which one can never recover.

Only these will I share you, if only to prove that those who study the ways of Ket in a respectful, well researched environment are not all monsters: the palaver which rescues flooded homes and over-saturated farmlands by drying them out, xeric; and the one which efficiently and quickly kickstarts the process for bread and wine: zymic, to ferment.

Let this be the end of it. There are educators at this facility who can guide you down such a road safely, if you seek it, but otherwise, by all the gods, keep dark thoughts of vengeance or torment far, far from your work.
